A photo album of Santa Cruz Rail Trail segment 7
Looking northwest at the tracks crossing Bay Street in Santa Cruz.
Having crossed Bay Street, looking north at the bicycle green lane meeting up with the rail trail.
This is where the rail trail meets Bay Street.
There is a lot of way finding signage at the intersection. Note the flex strips bordering the green bike lane as an additional visual separator for motorists.
Looking northeast on the Santa Cruz Rail Trail near Bay and Lennox streets.
Looking north east at the intersection of the rail trail with Lennox Street in Santa Cruz.
After crossing Lennox Street, meeting up again with the rail trail looking east.
Looking east toward the intersection of the rail trail with Palm Street.
Fun fact: the rail here is on a raised hump, and cars used to drive down Palm Street so fast that they would hit the hump like a ramp and gain air before crashing down at the top, throwing sparks.
There were gouges at the top of the hump from bolts on the underside of cars digging into the pavement.
In the 80's, neighbors campaigned and the city blocked off Palm Street at both sides of the tracks.
The intersection of the rail trail with Dufour Street, looking east.
Looking east up the rail trail after crossing Dufour Street. Note the corrugated fence with new vines starting, to make a privacy barrier between the trail and the adjacent back yard.
The intersection of the rail trail with Bellevue Avenue, looking east.
Note the yellow lane divider poles at the intersection, high viz crosswalk and signage.
Someone built and installed a nice little wooden bench here.
Looking east to the intersection of the rail trail with Younglove Avenue.
Looking east toward the intersection of the rail trail with Rankin Street and Seaside Street.
At the east side of the intersection with Almar Avenue.
Note the way finding signage.
Looking east toward the intersection at Fair Avenue and the New Leaf market.
This part of the Santa Cruz west side is home to wineries, breweries and other amenities.
Looking east on the rail trail between Fair Avenue and Swift Street in Santa Cruz.
There are numerous new tree plantings along the rail trail.
Looking east toward the intersection with Swift Street.
Looking east toward Natural Bridges and the edge of town.
