How the California mental health crisis emerged out of the state’s history of deinstitutionalization and laws designed to protect the mentally ill, as well as the communities around them.
By channeling funds to a number of nonprofits working on various issues in a given region, community foundations help solve big problems throughout California.
The links between homelessness and crime are complex, and the idea that unhoused individuals present a danger to their community seems to be exaggerated.

On Tuesday, city council voted on increasing master fees, awarding contracts to Live Violence Free and Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless, and a purchase of the property at 2111 – 2121 Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The council also received updates on the annual road rehabilitation program and drainage replacements during the Feb. 25 meeting.

After listening to feedback from Truckee residents, the Board of Supervisors canceled plans Tuesday for supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness in Truckee.
It was standing room only at a community meeting hosted on Thursday, Feb. 6 by Nevada County to discuss a permanent supportive housing unit that the county may potentially buy in the Amstrong Tract of Truckee.
The November 19 South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting had city housing manager Jessica Wackenhut Lomeli at the podium for several items, including discussing an amendment to employee housing ordinances, contracts with the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless and Live Violence Free, and decisions on Placemate's role in the Lease to Locals program, which ends on January 15, 2025.
