Trust for Public Land creates parks and protects land across the nation, with initiatives in every state.

The now 50-year organization is a “coalition of park lovers” functioning on the core belief that “everyone should have access to the outdoors” because “the outdoors are essential to our happiness, health, and well-being.” This means Trust for Public Land recognizes inequitable access to parks due to racial and economic factors and aims to reduce those barriers to promote health, community, and resilience in the face of climate change.

So far, Trust for Public Land has mobilized more than 9 million people to connect with the outdoors, passed 614 ballot measures, raised $93 billion in public funding, and protected 4 million acres of land. This number is only growing as projects are constantly initiated. In California specifically, the organization has initiated 922 total active and completed projects and protected 514,415 acres of land. Recently, the organization bought 700 acres of land and restored it to the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians, which led to the establishment of the Kashia Coastal Reserve. In Oakland, Trust for Public Land is converting asphalt into green spaces with the goal of ensuring that every Oakland resident has access to nature within a 10-minute walk. TPL has already served 1,900 students and planted over 115 trees. More projects like these are constantly being added.
