David Burnett joined the City Council in September 2020, when he was tapped to fill an empty seat created the month before when Adam Urrutia resigned his position and moved out of the area. Selected from a pool of five applicants, Burnett is serving the remainder of Urrutia’s term, which runs through November 2022.


According to the city notice announcing his appointment, Burnett has been a homeowner in Marina since 1995 and began serving on the Planning Commission in 1997. In 2010, David served as Monterey County’s supervisors’ representative on the redistricting commission. He also chaired Marina’s Redevelopment Agency Oversight Board from 2011 to 2018. His LinkedIn profile lists his current job as senior partner at Burnett and Associates since 2014, where he uses his expertise in website development, geo-spatial analysis, and mobile device applications. Prior to that, Burnett spent 24 years as senior GIS analyst for the County of Santa Cruz.
