This department encompasses many of the services necessary to keeping the city’s infrastructure maintained and preserving residents’ quality of life.

The Building Division provides permit processing, plan checking, inspections, and building code compliance. The Code Enforcement Officer works with the Police Department, Fire Department, Building Department and Community Development Department to investigate reported violations.

The Engineering team oversees the construction of public facilities, and the Planning Division provides technical assistance and guidance to the City Council, Planning Commission, Historic Design Review Commission and the public regarding policies and plans that guide the physical development of the city.

Public Works provides information on residential and business recycling programs, sewer services, solid waste services and stormwater management. Public Works also operates Auburn Transit, a fixed-route service that operates within the city and portions of unincorporated Placer County.
