It doesn’t have the same ring as “Tippecanoe and Tyler Too,“ but “Timm & Timms” proved to be a successful slogan for two Scotts Valley City Council candidates. In the November 2022 election, political newcomer Allan Timms campaigned with incumbent Councilmember Derek Timm, and they succeeded in ousting Jim Reed, who was also running for a second term.
On his campaign website, Timms explains that once he became a U.S. citizen in February of 2022, he wanted to give back to the community where he had made a new home. He began to attend council meetings and developed an interest in running for office—and a friendship with Timm.
In a blog post on his campaign website, Timm explains, “I’ve come to realize that Derek and I reflect the best possible outcome for Scotts Valley City Council—where he has political and local government experience, I have executive budget management and large team building; where he has great local contacts and the history of the city, I have experience of strategic planning and coordinating many complex projects. Derek is the trusted leader in this community and I am the fresh perspective the city needs.”
First elected: Nov. 8, 2022
Day job: Senior vice president of engineering at Universal Audio. Timms has also worked at Logitech and Qualcomm, among other companies.
Alma mater: University of Southhampton
Notable quote: “As a councilmember, I will prioritize supporting and working with the city staff as they do the hard work of managing our city. I will prioritize inclusivity and opportunity for all. Most of all, though, I will be present and available for the community.” —Lookout Local

Scotts Valley’s future isn’t something that just happens—we build it with the choices we make today. That’s why city leadership—including the Council, department heads and key community stakeholders—came together in February for a two-day Strategic Planning Workshop to map out priorities for the next two years.
Planning for the two-day Scotts Valley Art, Wine & Beer Festival, scheduled for Aug. 16-17, was about to be derailed when discussions between the Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce and the City got back on track with the help of Councilmember Steve Clark, who was elected to his first term in November.
