Though there was protest in the public comments of these meetings, both El Dorado County's Board of Supervisors and the city of South Lake Tahoe unanimously authorized the rate increase for solid waste collection proposed by South Tahoe Refuse.
One of the first orders of business at Tuesday night's council meeting, Dec. 10, included selecting a new mayor and mayor pro tem.
The City of South Lake Tahoe announced the return of its popular "Name a Snowplow" contest, now in its second year. This engaging contest gives the community the chance to vote on creative names for the snowplows and snowblowers that will serve during the 2024/2025 winter season. This year's contest is particularly special, as the names were thoughtfully crafted by kids from the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe.

The November 19 South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting had city housing manager Jessica Wackenhut Lomeli at the podium for several items, including discussing an amendment to employee housing ordinances, contracts with the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless and Live Violence Free, and decisions on Placemate's role in the Lease to Locals program, which ends on January 15, 2025.
An ordinance and city code amendment related to the Heavenly annexation received a second reading at the City of South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 20, per procedure. This comes after council passed the first reading and moved annexation proceedings forward at the Nov. 5 meeting.
The measure prohibiting vacation home rentals in residential areas will once again be heard in the El Dorado County Superior Court of California. A trial is scheduled on Nov. 27 on issues a higher court sent back.
From South Tahoe Now...
Among other rate increases from Liberty Utilities and Southwest Gas, the city of South Lake Tahoe announced a proposed rate increase for solid waste collection. The city is part of the Joint Powers Authority (JPA) called the South Lake Tahoe Basin Waste Management Authority and will be holding a public meeting to consider these adjustments on December 10 at 5:30 p.m.
One of the most widely discussed topics on the ballot this election was Measure N. And though it would have needed a majority to pass as a citizen's initiative, the majority appears to reject it soundly.
Election Day on Nov. 5, didn't keep City Council from meeting. It was business as usual Tuesday morning in the City of South Lake Tahoe council chambers where Mayor Cody Bass, Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Wallace, and Councilmembers Scott Robbins and Cristi Creegan met. Councilmember Devin Middlebrook was absent.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.– The boil water advisory for the South Tahoe residents on the Heavenly mountainside of Pioneer Trail between Ski Run Blvd and Fern Road has been lifted; the tap water is safe to drink. The South Tahoe Public Utility District collected additional water samples within the affected area on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Chlorine levels were normal and there were no bacteria.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – In early May this year, the City Council of South Lake Tahoe directed the staff to prepare an impact report on the Vacancy Tax initiative. In June, according to the California Elections Code 9212, the city then published the impact report, available on the City of South Lake Tahoe website.
