Brian McCarthy ran uncontested to represent District 1 on the Marina City Council. His four-year term started December 1, 2022. McCarthy served for four years as a Marina planning commissioner, and has a record of supporting affordable housing projects.

The biggest issue he sees for Marina is rapid growth, which needs careful planning in order to preserve and increase existing services. He will advocate for better long-term maintenance planning of existing infrastructure like parks and roads.

Notable quotes:
“Marina is full of dreams and as your councilmember it will be my job to help put those into action. We must prioritize carefully and focus diligently.” (Source: MarinaBrian.com)

“With all the new development at the Dunes, we will need to double down on our efforts to revive our downtown. This will require some investment from the city in terms of infrastructure and recruitment of development that reflect the vision of the downtown plan.” (Source: Monterey County Weekly)
