Liang-Fang “Liang” Chao won reelection to the Cupertino City Council in an eight-way race for three at-large seats in the general election held on Nov. 8, 2022. Chao and her husband, Weixun Cao, have lived in Cupertino since the 1990s, raising two sons who attend local schools. Chao is a cofounder of the community group Better Cupertino. She’s also a strong advocate for schools, having served on the board of the Cupertino Union School District.
On the VotersEdge.org website, Chao bullet-points these top priorities: accountability, thriving businesses, and integrated planning for housing, office and transit. On her own campaign site, her focus is on residents and quality-of-life issues, such as developing programs to serve seniors aging in place, providing career opportunities for teens, and promoting “programs to foster intergenerational connections and healthy activities.” She favors revamping the Neighborhood Watch program and encouraging cultural activities.

Notable quote: “Cupertino is on the precipice of major change. With new housing mandates/recommendations, there are many special interests who stand to profit from the growth of our city. We need to ensure that (1) our residents’ needs remain at the forefront and (2) our growth is balanced and sustainable. We must ensure that our transit, infrastructure, schools, and neighborhoods can safely accommodate this growth.” (Source: Liang4CupertinoCouncil.com)
