On VotersEdge.com, candidate Sheila Mohan asserted her top priority as a candidate for Cupertino City Council would be to “ensure fiscal accountability and transparency.” As the top vote-getter in the Nov. 8, 2022, election, she’ll get a chance to show her skills. The longtime Cupertino resident is a retired finance professional who has worked as a senior finance manager director for Santa Clara County and an administrative services director for Union City.
Mohan told La Voz, the newspaper for De Anza College, that she wants to increase fiscal transparency and accountability in part by preventing the city from spending taxpayer money on litigation. She also wants to improve transportation by working on projects with Valley Transportation Authority. Her other priorities include maintaining neighborhood integrity and provide housing and transit opportunities, and promoting partnerships between the city and regional agencies.
Her experience in city government and community service includes time spent as a fine arts commissioner and a library commissioner for Cupertino. She also is a volunteer driver for RYDE, a transportation service for those unable to drive.
First elected: Nov. 8, 2022
Alma maters: San Jose State University (master’s degree in business administration). Bangalore Univesity (master’s degree in English language and literature)
Notable quote: “I jumped into this race because I felt I had the commitment to Cupertino and that’s been proven in so many different ways over the years,” Mohan said. “I also have a deep knowledge of how local government works.” (Source: La Voz)
