In September 2015, Sue Garner resigned from the Monte Sereno Council. Evert Wolsheimer was the only resident to apply for the council position, so he was appointed to the office and served until 2018. In 2022, Wolsheimer and two others applied for three openings on the council—and all three were appointed in lieu of an election. Wolsheimer told the Times Herald that Monte Sereno’s lack of candidates could be reflective of concerns about the vitriol that some elected officials face. “I think that unfortunately scared away some people. They don’t want to go through that themselves,” Wolsheimer said.
Alma maters: Stanford University Graduate School of Business, Delft University of Technology
Other positions held: Monte Sereno City Councilmember (2015-2018), Site and Architecture Commission member
Notable quote: “I was a little bit disappointed there were not more candidates; I had expected more people to be interested. On the other hand, it’s kind of a relief also that there’s no campaign, no putting up signs, no going door to door, which makes it a little easier, of course.” (Source: Mercury News, Aug. 31, 2022)
