The Agriculture Commissioner is charged with the responsibility of serving the public's interest by promoting agriculture while protecting environmental quality and the health and welfare of Santa Cruz County's citizens. The commissioner oversees three divisions: Agricultural, Weights and Measures, and Mosquito and Vector Control.

Weights & Measures inspectors examine approximately 4,300 weighing and measuring devices throughout the county—for example, computing scales, utility submeters, produce scales, scales, livestock scales, truck scales, and many other types. The department also offers information on pest prevention, pesticide use, and organic agriculture programs.
