Councilmember Mary Badame ran for reelection in 2022, winning another term in a six-way race for three open seats. “As an incumbent with a consistent voting record of preserving our Town’s character, I have decades of community service in public and private sectors providing me with the experience necessary to make decisions impacting the future growth and character of our Town,” Badame told San Jose Spotlight during the campaign. As a local insurance agency owner, Mary Badame has provided families and businesses with financial advice, risk management, and asset protection. And at the same time, she built a long résumé of service in local government, volunteering for the Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Committee, and Conceptual Development Advisory Committee, among other roles.
Day job: Owner and operator of Mary J. Badame Insurance Agency
Alma mater: San Jose State University (bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration)
Other positions held: Commissioner, Los Gatos Planning Commission (2013-2020); member of the Los Gatos Historic Preservation Committee (2013-2020) and Conceptual Development Advisory Committee (2015-present).
Notable quote: “As a licensed property and casualty insurance agent, I am unable to provide home insurance coverage for many residents in Town due to a high risk of wildfire in Los Gatos. Our Town residents are at high risk for loss of homes, businesses, and lives. I fully support creating a wildfire resistant community and expediting implementation of our Ad-Hoc Wildfire Mitigation Plan—including vegetation management. From San Jose Spotlight...
Wild mustard is in full bloom at one of Los Gatos’ last orchards, where hundreds of bare, brown walnut trees stand as remaining vestiges of the town’s agricultural past. That may soon change.
Los Gatos could be looking at an estimated $5.6 million deficit for fiscal year 2025-26, a significant number for a town with a roughly $60 million budget for the current fiscal year. The shortfall is largely due to anticipated revenue not keeping pace with rising costs and inflation, according to the town’s mid-year fiscal report and five-year forecast released last month.
The Los Gatos Town Council unanimously approved a 155-townhome development on March 4 to replace the Los Gatos Lodge.
From Los Gatan...
The Los Gatos Lodge housing proposal emerged from Planning Commission last week, with a rare unanimous vote of support in its first kick at the can. It will now move on to Town Council.
