In 2022, only three candidates came forward to fill three seats on the Monte Sereno City Council. One of these was Burton Craig, who served on the council from 2010 to 2018. On Aug. 25, the city canceled the election and appointed the three candidates to the council. At the time Craig told the Mercury News, “I was not really going to run. I put my application in pretty much at the deadline. I guess there were some other people who had been asked and were contemplating and at the last minute, decided they weren’t able to do it. So I said, ‘OK, I’ll do it.’”

Notable quote: “My love for computers took me across the United States. I started with a medical software company in Ohio, then on to Texas, and finally California. I've lived in California for over 20 years and have come to love the Bay Area, particularly Silicon Valley, as the greatest place in the world to live.” (Source: Burton for City Council site)
