The five members of the Saratoga City Council are elected at large and serve a four-year term. The mayor and vice mayor are appointed every year in December by the City Council and serve for one year. To run for City Council, a person must be a resident, 18 years and older, and registered to vote in the city of Saratoga.

Meetings: Held on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 7 p.m.

All five West Valley municipalities — Cupertino, Saratoga, Monte Sereno, Campbell and Los Gatos —  recently approved a homeless shelter feasibility study conducted by Good City Company.
