Brian Frazier, a Diamond Springs resident, was appointed to fill the elected position of county surveyor when longtime El Dorado County Surveyor Phil Mosbacher passed away in 2021. Frazier was named as surveyor for the remainder of the term through 2022. In the June 2022 primary, he won election to the seat. Frazier got his start as a surveyor in 1988, working in the private sector before being appointed as assistant surveyor to Mosbacher in April 2020.
